March 21st—April 25th

    Room: Online Room

The Sadhana of Mahamudra was received by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1968 when he was in retreat seeking inspiration for how to present the dharma in the West. The sadhana brings together the highest and most profound teachings of mahamudra and ati. With daring compassion, Trungpa Rinpoche made this practice open to everyone.

To fully receive this precious gift, we must study and practice it wholeheartedly. This course goes step-by-step through the sadhana, exploring the inner meaning of each section of the text. There are five recorded talks by senior teacher John Rockwell.  We will gather together online to view and discuss these teachings.

Talk 1 – Taking Refuge and Arousing Bodhichitta
Talk 2 – Three Leaps and the Charnel Ground  A slideshow  about “Trungpa Rinpoche’s Journey to Taktsang and Beyond” with commentary by John Rockwell, followed by Q&A
Talk 3 – Visualization and the Three Karmapas
Talk 4 – Devotion and Supplication
Talk 5 – Abhisheka and Blessing
    Talk 6 – Feast Offering

For each talk, there are readings from the two seminars that Trungpa Rinpoche taught on the sadhana, as well as contemplation questions to spark online discussion.  Readings are from Devotion & Crazy Wisdom: Teachings on the Sadhana of Mahamudra by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.

Completing this course will give permission for any non-Vajrayana students to purchase the sadhana and do the practice on their own.

John Rockwell has been on the path of dharma for 45 years. He met Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1975 and studied and practiced the Buddhist and Shambhala teachings for 12 years with him, and in particular worked with him on translating Tibetan texts into English. For ten years, he studied and taught at Naropa University in the Buddhist Studies department. For many years, he served as an acharya or senior teacher for Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and also studied intensively with Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. His inspiration is to share the profound and practical teachings that he has received.
