Milarepa Day

February 18th

Date details +

Please join us for the annual regional celebration of Milarepa Day on Monday, February 18 from 9 am to 6 pm, at the Davis Shambhala Meditation Center, led by Marshall Bishop. You are welcome to attend all or part of the day.  There is no charge, but donations are most welcome.

Milarepa Day celebrates the enlightenment and life example of the yogi Milarepa by reading the songs of the lineage in The Rain of Wisdom. This text consists of songs of realization by the great meditators of the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. They express deep insight and heartfelt devotion, and their beauty and intensity have made them famous in Tibetan literature. This collection was first compiled by Mikyo Dorje, the eighth Karmapa; it was translated into English by the Nalanda Translation Committee under the supervision of Chogyam Trungpa who comments:

“Students are advised to read this book for instructions when their life is filled with disruption and uncertainty and neurosis.  From my personal experience, these songs do provide a staircase of liberation.  They actually enable us to interrupt our perpetual subconscious gossip, awaken ourselves on the path, and energize ourselves so that we can help others.”

Please bring your copy of The Rain of Wisdom if you have one. If you don’t, others will be at the center for shared use during the day.

Used copies may also be purchased at Amazon. They are a kind and inspiring treasure chest from the lineage.

Light refreshments and chai tea will be provided throughout the day. Please bring your lunch or plan to eat out.
